CASE STUDY - LE TOUESSROK GOLF COURSE, MAURITIUS

Built on a small lava atoll called lle aux Cerfs, IMG’s support to address environmental issues were imperative to maintain the uniqueness and natural beauty of this golf course. Strict environmental policies were part of the initial golf course approval process, whereby IMG Golf Course Services worked in conjunction with the course designer and the local government to ensure the course would not negatively impact the fragile ecosystem.

IMG implemented specific environmental practices during the design/construction phases of Le Touessrok, adopting a least disturbance policy including the following;

• The removal of rock only for landscaping purposes and the formation of
tee and green surfaces to meet international standards;

• Sensitive routing of the golf course to accommodate and incorporate the site’s outstanding natural features, including specimen trees and inland ponds, while meeting international standards for golf;

• Optimum usage of existing topsoil resources of Ile aux Cerfs to avoid importing soil and sand.

The environmentally sensitive regime for golf course maintenance has been ongoing since the course opened and has been enhanced through the efforts of Le Touessrok Golf Course Management.

The efforts in place at Le Touessrok Golf Course are proof that a high-end golf resort can be committed to environmental sustainability whilst still maintaining its 5-star standards.
